Creem (New York)

“Greetings! Here is the newest release from Katorga Works (and yet another band from Colman), the Creem 12″. Here is our stock record description: “This release marks the first 12″ release from premier NYHC act CREEM. The band jumps light years ahead of the recording session that spawned a demo cassette and 7″ single and creates a piece of music that is far and away its best material. Six originals and a cover of Boston/UK-influenced hardcore. A split release with Deranged.”

We’re very proud of this one. In Adam’s opinion, it’s one of the better records to come out of the current crop of awesome NYC bands. Buy it from either Deranged (Canada) or Katorga Works (U.S.), who both have a plethora of other distro records you can purchase, as well. Also, check out CREEM on their upcoming May/June tour with Hounds of Hate, with other sporadic shows, as well.” - icoulddietomorrow.blogspot.com

Hounds of Hate(Braddock, PA)

I always had the idea of hardcore punk being something that contained hope in a messed up world. Well, until we started writing songs for our own band’s full-length and couldn’t come up with a three-word sentence what that concerns. Hounds of Hate share that feeling on this 5-song 7”. From the ultra Warzone-esque intro to title song “no redemption” and “the evil that men do” these guys don’t see a bright future for humanity. Music-wise this is something different than most of the 80s throwbacks I’ve heard so far and we all know how much we already have of that stuff, right!? Hounds of Hate mix old NYHC styled jams - the vocals indeed reminding me of Warzone - with a oi/punk edgy to it. There’s an honesty in these songs that can’t be fucked with. These songs are made by dudes with history what HC is concerned and with ex-members from Pissed Jeans and Black Kites in it that isn’t so hard to see. I must, must, must, muuust mention that Hounds of Hate are a straight edge band and that was an extra reason for me to pick this up, until Jay sent me the 7” for free. Really, there’s even a “drug free youth” line on this fucker. “Straight edge, but not an asshole”-bands that fully embrace the DIY-part of the scene (not that there really is another one amiright?!) are a blind buy what I’m concerned. I really hope their European tour will take more shape towards this Summer. Pick this shit up at one of the more interesting small US labels Katorga Works! - mashnote

Wild Child (Minneapolis, MN)

So I finally did it… I finally broke down and got a tape player. One of the main reasons of doing so was that I could hear this tape; it is no let down. Wild Child have been taking the city by storm (part 3) here in Minneapolis for the better part of the year with live shows, but now we got something concrete to sink our teeth into. This is chaotic Hardcore at its finest and what I imagine teetering on the edge of insanity must sound like - complete with manic laughter. Get your hands on one of these bad boys while they last” - fashionableactivism

Guilt Party (Houston, TX)

“The little desert wolves yapped in the dark and Glanton’s dog trotted beneath the horse’s belly, its footfalls stitched precisely among the hooves.” Jaron and Jacob were listening to CREEM in an old beat up Buick or Mercury or some shit, after hours, beers in hand, and they were determined to start something.
