Poor Dumb Bastards (Houston, TX)

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Poor-Dumb-Bastards/126350582202

PDB was formed in March 1991 by long time hetero life partners and musical collaborators, Mike Porterfield and Byron Dean. The initial interest was to find a means to get into Emo’s for free, later they discovered Emo’s was always free. Drawing on their collective influences and experiences from some of their earlier work, bands like Cretinoid, Plutonium Flatheads and the Byron Weird Group, Mike and Byron set out create a genre all their own, hence “Texas Drunk Rock” was born. Add the non bass playing talents of Steve Scholtes and the competent, metronomic drumming of Chi Chi Macoola, and PDB were able to carve their initials on the bathroom door of the Texas music scene. Through the many years and many lineup changes, but these Ill-minded sewer rockers have stayed true to their founding principals. POWER, PERFORMANCE, PERVERSION

Wee Beasties (Denton, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/theweebeasties

The Wee-Beasties are a punk rock band from Denton, TX. Formed in 2009, the band quickly gained a cult following based largely on their notorious and often controversial live performances. The band acquired regional and national press over their use of “sexploitation” during shows and even in their promotional material, most particularly with numerous photos of their panty-clad singer storming the public stage at the 2011 35 Conferette and several Internet videos of their production of MILFest 2011 (a risqué beauty pageant for “hot moms”).

Musically, the band has been described as fast-paced, horn driven punk rock with elements of mariachi and surf mixed in. Their lyrics are often tongue-in-cheek dives into depraved sex and violence that develop into chants and crowd sing-alongs. To date, all of the band’s material has been released by local independent labels, with much of it staying out of print. Online sales for their albums, however, remain strong.

In May of 2011, the band won a spot on the Vans Warped tour after a typically intense performance on the Earn It Yourself “Spring Into Action Tour”. The band is set to release a split seven-inch vinyl record in July of 2011, sharing half of the vinyl with Grammy Award winning act Brave Combo. Greg Ginn, of Black Flag, makes an appearance on lead guitar for the Wee-beasties song “Lauren in a Bathing Suit”, which is also to be featured on the new record.

A performing guitarist and composer and producer Jonas Wilson lives in Bastrop, TX and . He is currently a member of the white white lights a high powered post-punk outfit in Austin, TX and has been a member of bands Lomita, Slow Motion Picture, Goudie, Elijah Ford and The Bloom, The Wake, My Violent Life.he has performed with many acts over the years such as Tod Schnider and Johnny Goudie and Alpha Rev and many many more.

Black Irish Texas (Austin, TX)
https://www.blackirishtexas.com/

Emerging from the local cut-throat and highly competitive music scene of Austin, comes Black Irish Texas. And out of the proclaimed live music capital of the world they have exploded on the scene like a whiskey drenched force to be reckoned with. They have shared the stage with such International acts as Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Social Distortion, and the Street Dogs just to name a few, as well as local Austin legends such as the Dicks and the Flametrick Subs.

The band started in 2004 after a few lineup changes and many tribulations, they have managed to keep their anything-but-common spaghetti western/Americana/punk infused Irish American act together just long enough to finally release their debut album “To Hell with the King.”

With backing from Jameson Irish whiskey and support from legions of local and regional fans they released their first full length album and have been running all over the country throwing their no holds barred Irish American party gaining devout followers everywhere they play.

Black Irish boast members of Austin favorite’s such as Mr. Lewis and the Funeral Five, Flatcar Rattlers, Los Hispanos,UK, The Bulemics, and Hipsterectomy just to name a few. With members from each of those bands bringing to the table their own particular styles and influences, your current line-up of James Fitzsimmons on guitar and vocal duties, Mark Maughmer II on fiddle, James Sheeron on drums, Jasen Douglass on upright bass and Scott’breadstick’ Ducar on banjo, you are basically looking at a powder keg lit by a few shots of Jameson. And what a site it is.

Do not, I repeat, do NOT try and pigeonhole these guys as an Irish pub drinking band, regurgitating overheard covers of “danny boy” and “whiskey in the jar” .
