ESPANTAPAJAROS is a Psychedelic-rock band led By Pablo Espantapajaros. The group was founded by Pablo and his brother Mariano in early 1996 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, when they recorded their first demo. They’re rooted deep in Rock and Roll and psychedelic music, specifically that of the 1960’s and early 1990’s bands. The music is a refreshing and innovative mix; British and American ’60s revisited, blues oriented Psychedelic sounds with lyrics in Spanish and English as well.

The band has recorded 3 independent EP’s with a variety of genres in their songs. Madera (2001-lo-fi) combines the sad melodies of Neil Young, the catchy hooks of The Byrds and hypnotic indian sounds. Siguiendo a la estrella “Following the star” (2005), combines psychedelic british sounds, space folk and epic melodies. Aqui, ahora, siempre…(2006), is simply rock & roll.

In 2006 Pablo moved to Houston, where he’s put together a new band to play shows like THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL and HOUSTON PRESS MUSIC AWARDS where the band has been nominated in the Best Latin Contemporary category three years in a row. In 2010 ESPANTAPAJAROS re-released “Following The Star” in the USA completely re-mixed and re-mastered. The band succeeds in driving forward the spirit of true rock n’ roll…

The current members are: Diego Fernandez (Guitar) from Venezuela, Roberto Reffell (Bass) from the USA, Antonio Gonzalez (Drums) from Mexico.

“All you gringos out there better listen up: Some, maybe even most, of the best rock and roll in town right now is en español. This became even clearer a little later on at Havana, thanks to the Hendrix/Zeppelin/Black Crowes onslaught that was ESPANTAPAJAROS. A shaggy-haired wisp of a man, Pablo ESPANTAPAJAROS is an absolute demon on the guitar, and the airtight three-piece band behind him set up a rolling groove that could have been transplanted from the Fillmore in San Francisco or that long-lost dingy London basement where the Yardbirds first started spreading their wings.” – Chris Gray from the Houston Press

The Bio which you are about to read is an account of the tragedy that befell a group of three youths, in particular Samuel Barker and his invalid co-front, Huke. It is all the more tragic in that they were young. But, had they played very, very long shows, they could not have expected nor would they have wished to see as much of the mad and macabre as they were to see that day. For them an idyllic summer afternoon gig became a nightmare.

The Events of that day were to lead to the formation of one of the most bizarre bands in the annals of Texas music history. The Wayward Sons…
