Ophelia’s Rope and Friends (7pm)
Ophelia’s Rope (Houston, TX)

Two girls waiting for you to pick a number
Brace yourself! Ophelia’s Rope comes backed with extensive experience in theatre, improv, dancing, singing, TV and film, and athleticism, so you know this has got to be good. Members Autumn Clack and Ruth Shauberger McCleskey both boast extremely intensive training in theatre and the performing arts. Take Clack, for instance. She majored in Acting at Adelphi University in New York, and coupled it with a minor in Dance, emphasis on ballet and modern styles. After, she attended London Dramatic Academy where she dove deep within the world of Shakespeare. Additionally, Clack has acquired skills in stage combat, pointe dance, aerial, dialect detection, and choreography, making her a multi-threat onstage- especially while next to McCleskey, a very suitable improv partner, indeed. McCleskey graduated magna cum laude at the University of Houston, where she scored her BA in Theatre, emphasis on Acting and Directing. Since, she has continued learning in the fields of acting, improv, stage combat, TV and film production, and dancing in the forms of two-step, swing, tango, waltz, plus several more. So she’s no stranger to partner performances. In fact, this duo seems to thrive in improv, and it all started in 2005 when they joined Massive Improv. There they participated on multiple teams, taking them to Austin, Chicago, San Francisco. Eventually, though, both Clack and McCleskey drifted from Massive Improv and it wasn’t until some time later that both heard the stage beckoning them to return to improv. And thus, Ophelia’s Rope was born! The team has participated in the Houston Improv Festival, the Austin Out of Bounds Festival, ComedySportz, and is now ready to conquer more. These two actresses know the improv scene well, and that is precisely why Ophelia’s Rope is able to deliver a fresh thought provoking laughter-filled performances that are guaranteed to lasso your attention.

Adrian & The Sickness (Austin, TX)
https://adrianconner.com/
Adrian and the Sickness is an undeniable front of infectious pop concoction wrapped around electric, bombastic rock and roll. They have been wowing live audiences with sweet melody and sheer sonic power since their debut in February 2004. Guitarist Adrian Conner also plays lead in Hell’s Belles, an AC/DC tribute band so fearsome that Angus Young himself is a devoted fan. She’s a deft soloist and a sure hand with a stinging riff, and she’s demonstrated her talents in front of demanding AC/DC fans all over the world. But she’s also a formidable pop-rock songwriter, penning honest, forthright songs spiked with catchy, irresistible hooks. Her original music has been called “exciting, rambunctious and kinda scary” in Guitar Player Magazine (2007).
In 2008, Adrian’s endearing melodies as well as her scalding six-string caught the attention of fellow Austin resident, songwriter and bassist for the Gogo’s, Kathy Valentine, who produced the band’s fourth CD, B.F.D. (2009). Kathy’s attention to sonic detail and eye for the architecture of pop composition resulted in an album that combines the rock fury and dazzling guitar of Angus’ best, with the approachability and energy of early Go-Go’s-style pop-punk. Adrian and the Sickness released B.F.D., under their own label, Fantom Records, which charted on CMJ stations across the US and Canada, in early 2010.
Commanding, untamed, and with a kinetic live show to level all comers, Austin’s Adrian & The Sickness are just what the Dr. ordered.
Jody Seabody & the Whirls (Katy, Texas)
https://www.facebook.com/JodySeabody
Jody Seabody and the Whirls is pure energy and emotion. The sound of this psychedelic punk-pop-rock band from Houston, Texas varies from vast landscapes of lush chords to dissonant wastelands of distorted fuzz, sometimes all in one song. These musicians are not “indie-pop”, do not wear skinny jeans, nor have mustaches. They also do not apologize for any of these fashion faux pas.
Jody Seabody comfortably straddles genre boundaries without obligating itself to any particular sound or classification. Covert funk (à la Sly and the Family Stone) and a rawness reminiscent of Nirvana’s B-sides share equal presence in the Jody Seabody catalog. These trademarks in combination with its members’ tongue-in-cheek demeanors result in energetic and entertaining live performances.
Past show highlights include three sets during SXSW 2011 and a spot on the Free Press Summer Fest 2011 and 2012 line-ups. To complement their two previously self-released EPs (“Orange” and “Jody Seabody and the Whirls Sing Songs”), their debut album “Summer Us” was released on June 30, 2012.
