What is 8th Wonder all about? Gr8 beer! We are dedicated to brewing fresh, flavorful ales, and we’re excited to be a part of the local beerscape.

In 1965, the doors to the Houston Astrodome opened for the first time. Dubbed the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, this first ever domed stadium coincided with Houston’s launch into the global spotlight. Forty-eight years later, Houston is home to yet another 8th Wonder.

We are applying our craft in a dome-like warehouse located in the shadow of the Houston skyline in East Downtown. Using only the freshest ingredients of the highest quality, each batch of beer we brew undergoes strict flavor analysis and quality control. 8th Wonder: it’s the 1 you want.

Only blocks away from the Astros, Dynamo, and Rockets stadiums, 8th Wonder is the craft beer for the home team. Swing by the taproom before a game, and get some of the freshest, tastiest beer in town.

Monday 27 April 2015 - OBN III’S * Secret Prostitutes * Snooty Garbagemen

OBN III’S (Austin, TX)
https://obniiis.com/

“OBN III’s third LP – the appropriately titled “Third Time to Harm” – follows the bands’ justly lauded LPs, “The One and Only” (2011), and self-titled follow-up (2012). This latest and greatest slab of guitar-driven magma from Austin’s great sons captures best the brute energy of their unique calling card; their live show (an experience that oscillates between epic and epileptic) by coupling it with heavy recordings. Third Time to Harm nets that exact rare bird that eludes so many; a truly charismatic front man fronting a real rock band that’s not faking a single thing and has talent. And situated amongst a modern class of garage rock superheroes cropping up everywhere, what’s so refreshing is that the OBN III’s’ unforced style and swagger not only shines through, but naturally punches through, song by song, show by show, laying the tracks for its own freight train.

Third Time to Harm is a straight up rager full of ripping Marshalls taking hard turns into dark places (both personal and universal). A definitive party record in sound, but a complete record in scope with its detailed riffing and bright solos burning over mountainous beats in the wildfire of Neeley’s antics. They’ve rightly been compared to Sonics Rendezvous Band…and that won’t stop here. There’s also plenty of Iggy-like heart in this, but in the interest of interest Orville struts out from beneath the shadowy impositions of any “Stooges role” expected of him, instead gnashing his teeth against newly cut rhythms, adding dimension to the band. With all the vigor of the former, and all the direction of his own.

With shows and albums that speak for themselves; leaving heart, blood and beer on the floor every night, this self-produced record captures best their honest appeal with a big recording. And it’s all wrapped up in a bow of middle fingers. OBN III’s have been steadily carving their name into the upper echelons of the underbelly…and with intense touring, 2014 may be the year the band is poised to really (and at long last deservedly) blow. Either way, the beat chugs on…” - Tell all Your Friends PR

Secret Prostitutes (Houston, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Secret-Prostitutes/406440782699278

“The Secret Prostitutes, led by drummer Adit Samudra with Wolf on guitar and Ryan on bass, play something like the antithesis of the distended and psychologically complex music of the Energy. Aptly titled, Never Mind the K.B.D. consists of D.I.Y. punk in the style of the Killed By Death compilations, with simple, direct riffs arranged into fast, very short songs, 22 of which are dispatched in just over 25 minutes. A.D.D. indeed. Samudra has a knack for the punk technique of crafting catchy vocal lines without the use of melody, with songs like “Sabotase Barang Bukti” and “Hipnotis,” both of which feature Samudra’s sister on vocals, serving as prime examples…Confoundingly, one of the things that distinguishes the Secret Prostitutes, the fact that Samudra writes in Indonesian, limits the impact of the songs for an English-speaking audience. Not that Samudra doesn’t have every right and reason to write lyrics in whatever language he chooses, but this particular choice does limit the access of most American listeners to the content of the songs.” -29.95.com

Sunday 26 April 2015 - Project Highway with Mike Motz and Barb Perez “2 Comedians, 50 States, 1 Mission” (Free Comedy Show Filming Live, doors 7pm)

Project Highway
https://www.projecthighway.net/

Project Highway is the journey of two professional stand-up comedians, Barbara Perez and Mike Motz. They are enduring the hardships and uncertainty of living on the road in order to meet and perform for people in all 50 states Vaudeville Style; building their fan bases the old fashioned way - getting out there and meeting people one at a time.

Performing their hilarious stand-up comedy is only one aspect of Project Highway; wanting to bring back into focus the importance of people interacting with each other on a one-on-one basis, they will be interviewing people that have their own inspiring stories along the way.

Everywhere the two comedians eat, find lodging, and perform must be with a locally owned, American business. By highlighting these businesses in the areas they visit, as well as producing individual “Spotlight” videos, it is the intention of Project Highway to encourage people to frequent and support their local, American owned businesses. It is more important than ever that we as Americans support each other, and understand that if we do not fully and intentionally support local businesses both at large, “mom and pop’s” will cease to exist. That would be catastrophic not only economically, but to society in general.

Unlike “reality” television shows that give viewers into an unrealistic look at life, Project Highway puts on no pretenses; it is raw and it is real. Our aim is to be an example of proof that no matter your background or perceived disadvantages, once you take that first step towards following your heart and chasing your dreams, regardless of what that dream may be, achievement and success is not only possible, it is inevitable.

The entire Project Highway journey is being documented for broadcast.

No Love Less (Houston, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/pages/No-Love-Less/172577996102889

Since their debut in Fall 2010, they have paved a fiery path in the Deep South, arranging shows across the state of Texas with cohorts like Zipperneck, Poor Dumb Bastards, Adrian and the Sickness, The Hates, The Biscuit Bombs, and longtime punk idols the Mydolls. In 2013 No Love Less was joined by super talented guitarist, drummer, singer Adam Stanley.

The band features two members of the Mydolls – well-honed bass player Dianna Ray and nimble guitarist and singer Trish Herrera – who have spent thirty years thriving in Houston’s punk community, dating back to key clubs like the Island (Houston), Raul’s (Austin), Bonham Exchange (San Antonio), and the Hot Klub (Dallas). They are joined by David Ensminger, drummer for the Biscuit Bombs (featuring Randy “Biscuit” Turner of the Big Boys) and many other blatantly local heroes like Magnetic Four and London Girl. Ensminger, whose book on
punk street art is due out in Summer 2011 from the University of Mississippi, also writes for Maximum Rock’n’Roll, Popmatters, and the Houston Press.

New Nation is their first single, recorded at infamous southern studio Sugar Hill, which has captured decades worth of premier performances, including the 13th Floor Elevators, Howlin’ Wolf, Really Red, and even Destiny’s Child. With the oversight of Dan Workman, guitarist for art-punk pioneers Culturcide, No Love Less forged a five-song EP that offers a platter of terse, taut, and frenetic songs that combine narrative storytelling, glued-to-the-heart politics, roaring ruckus, and funk-punk finesse.

Thursday 23 April 2015 - The Wheel Workers * I Am The Albatross * Inside Voices

The Wheel Workers (Houston, TX)
https://www.thewheelworkers.com/

Since late 2010, The Wheel Workers’ crisp sound and intelligent lyrics have earned them growing recognition in Houston’s active indie rock scene. Recently, they were nominated in numerous categories in the prestigious 2014 Houston Press Music Awards, including Best Songwriter (Steven Higginbotham), Best Keyboardist (Allison McPhail) and Best Pop Act.

The Wheel Workers have played regularly around Texas, performing at SXSW in Austin, enjoying the honor of playing on the same stage as The Flaming Lips at Free Press Summerfest in Houston, and opening for national touring acts such as Miniature Tigers, Elf Power, The Coathangers and Thao & The Get Down Stay Down.

The band is currently promoting its second full-length album, Past to Present, recorded at SugarHill Studios with producer Dan Workman and released by ZenHill Records.

“They’ve managed to craft a dozen tracks that are thoughtful, warm, friendly, melodic, and addictive as all hell (it’s seriously impossible to not sing along to “Chemicals,” for one)….” – Space City Rock

“I’m enraptured by the deftness with which The Wheel Workers have brought together the sounds of Radiohead, ELO, Pink Floyd, The Flaming Lips, twothirtyeight, and The Rentals with such fantastic aplomb. Past to Present is packed to the gills with crazy-good pop music that also manages to be insightful, dense, and heartfelt art-rock.” – Dryvetyme Online

I AM THE ALBATROSS IS A BAND FROM AUSTIN, TX. THEY HAVE A SOUND THAT COMBINES THE BACKWOODS MYSTICISM OF OLD-TIME AMERICAN FOLK SONGS WITH THE SAVAGE SPIRIT OF ROCK, PUNK, AND PSYCHEDELIC NOISE. HEAVY AMERICANA, GOTHIC FOLK, WESTERN PSYCH, OR JUST PLAIN ROCK N’ ROLL; CALL IT WHAT YOU WILL.

THE MUSIC IS EQUALLY INSPIRED BY THE DESERT PSYCHEDELIA OF KYUSS, THE BROODING FIRE AND BRIMSTONE STORY TELLING OF NICK CAVE, THE RICKETY JUKE JOINT STOMP OF TOM WAITS, AND THE PURE HEAVY RIFFAGE OF BLACK SABBATH.
