Supremacy (Houston, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/supremacytx

Supremacy is a Houston Hardcore band founded in 2007 by members; Steven Garza [Vocals], David Garza [Guitars], and Kenneth Garcia [Drums]. Based on the foundations of their trust, friendships, building their community and creating new relationships with fellow musicians. They self-released their debut EP “Justice is Obsolete” in 2008 and performed off that release for a year. Hit with a hard recession; members concentrating on careers and unexpected family loss, they were forced to shelve the band with the future uncertain.

They decided to reform January 2014 adding a new member Ron Buckley [Bass] and began writing their debut full length album 12 Years, eventually setting recording dates with Craig Douglas at Origin Sound Productions December ‘14. For fans of East Coast Hardcore, West Coast Hardcore, and Texas Hardcore.

Tuesday 28 July 2015 - Pegstar Presents: Electric Citizen * Mondo Drag * Slow Season (doors 8pm)

Electric Citizen (Cincinnati, OH)
https://electriccitizenband.com/

Electric Citizen is a rock n roll band from Cincinnati, Ohio whose heavy sound is timeless and music to the ears of any rock n roll fan. Formed just over 2 years ago by guitarist Ross Dolan, vocalist Laura Dolan, Nick Vogelpohl (bass) and Nate Wagner (drums), the band has had a very busy year turning heads and ears onto their music. Since signing with RidingEasy Records in early 2014, they’ve done several direct support tours with Wolfmother, Fu Manchu, and Budos Band. The band’s debut album came out July 2014 and ended up on several end of year best of lists. In July, Electric Citizen will be taking a break from recording their sophomore album to headline a tour with label mates Mondo Drag and Slow Season.

Mondo Drag (Oakland, CA)
https://www.mondodrag.com/

Under the spiritual guidance of the forefathers of heavy psych, prog, and proto-metal, Mondo Drag has created an amalgamation of sounds the likes of which have not resounded through the atmosphere for decades. The bands unique sound, and rare cohesion probably stem from the fact that core members John Gamino, Nolan Girard, and Jake Sheley actually grew up within a one mile radius from each other, attended the same schools, were a part of the same scene, and have played music with each other for 15 years.

The band’s stellar live performances have become a thing of wonder and have seen the band share stages with contemporary artists such as Nik Turner’s Hawkwind, Kadavar, Dead Meadow, Witchcraft, Pentagram, Black Mountain, Wooden Shjips, and The Black Keys to name a few.

The release of New Rituals (Alive Records), saw the band touring the US extensively, appearing at many high-profile fests around the country including several official showcases at SXSW (and a dozen more unofficial ones) and headlining slots at both the Chicago Pysch Fest and the Cincy Psych Fest. You can also find them on the Austin Psych Fest 3 DVD (w/ The Black Angels, The Warlocks, Warpaint, et al.).

The band caravanned across the country last year, settling in Oakland, CA. They will be releasing their 2nd LP on January 16th, 2015 on Kozmik Artifactz, which features the rhythm section of fast-rising Swedish-American rock band Blues Pills (Nuclear Blast).

Slow Season (Oakland, CA)
https://slowseasonmusic.com/

Slow Season possess that raw, hard rock sound that is firmly rooted in the blues..”
“…it’s impossible to argue with an album of absolutely great songs played with real passion topped off with an authentic, raw and suitably vintage production.”
“Plus it’s refreshing to hear an album that retains a band’s identity whilst travelling through so many musical styles and moods.”
-Ollie Stygall

“If you like it heavy, if you yearn for more of those late 60s acid rock/blues daze well here’’s an album just for you.” -Kami McInnes

“Je viens d’écouter en boucle leur premier LP.”
“I listened to their first LP over and over again.”

“La voix de Daniel et la guitare de David font encore des miracles sur ” No Bridge Rag ” et l’overdrive fait son retour sur ” Bars & Bars ” : un riff lancinant qui laisse la place aux échos des riffs torturés de David pour un final tout en beauté !”
“Daniel’s voice and David’s guitar make miracles on ‘No bridge rag’ and the overdrive makes its come back on ‘Bars & bars’: an insistent riff which gives way to the echoes of David’s tortured riffs before ending up beautifully!”
-Jeanmid

Hickoids (Austin, TX)
https://www.hickoids.com/

Hell, let’s just cut to the chase right at the outset. The Hickoids defy easy and neat description, or even messy description, though “messy” was often applied to the band’s members and their shamelessly uninhibited punk rock run for the wilted Texas yellow roses from 1985 through ‘92 — one of the mildest descriptions, in fact. The tags hung around their scrawny and unruly necks like name and number slates in arrest photos include but are hardly limited to cowpunk, white thrash, glambilly, hard-corn, psychobilly, hick rock, acidbilly and out on bail. All in a way apply, but none and even the sum of those terms do these magnificent musical reprobates full justice.

“Apart from maybe the Groovy Rednecks or Hank III, there aren’t any country-rock performers around these days who live it up recklessly and raucously with the same boozy, profane attitude and hell-raisin’ abandon as the Hickoids,” notes L.A. Weekly

To truly “get” The Hickoids as they were in their original wild, wooly and damned loud and raucously ragged magnificence, combine tequila with beer chasers (not the other way around), psychedelic shrooms, demon musical seeds spewed by The Sex Pistols, The Ramones and Iggy & The Stooges, honky-tonk and “Hee Haw,” hay bales scattered in the air, power chords and toxic twang galore, battered cowboy hats and tattered thrift store dresses, and their Austin hometown in all its late ‘80s cheap rent/booze/pot/living slacker splendor. That’ll give ya a bracing taste of what was and now, nearly 20 years after they sputtered to a halt, returns anew. Or simply mix the notions “Texas” and “punk rock,” multiply that to the Nth exponential, and shake vigorously. Voila! Hickoids.

“The delightfully lewd, crude and lascivious Hickoids have returned from the corn crib of oblivion,” declares Blurt. So lock up your wives and daughters as well as your liquor and medicine cabinets, batten down the hatches, and happily beware. The corn is again popping, roasting and brewing in the still as The Hickoids return to criminally mischievous action. After fomenting a musical revolution from the dung of punk rock and country, they’re back to rule the roost like the proverbial wolves in the henhouse of contemporary music.

Beaumonts (Lubbock, Tx)
https://www.thebeaumontstx.com/

There’s something about Lubbock. Something other than the oppressive blue sky, the unavoidable cloud of shit-smell that occasionally engulfs the city, the flat, featureless landscape, or the preponderance of teen pregnancy, boredom, alcoholism, and God. There’s music. Yes, indeed there is. The Hub City has spawned music like you wouldn’t believe. Music loved by folks the world over. Even the real “King of Rock and Roll” came from Lubbock, and if you believe that (which you’d be a damn fool not to), then it ain’t too much of a stretch to believe Lubbock is also home to the greatest country band that ever existed. That band is THE BEAUMONTS.

It wasn’t too long ago that four of Lubbock’s most loved veteran musicians decided the state of Texas country music was dismal at best, and horrifying at its worst. Somehow, over the last twenty years, it became acceptable for a group of frat-boys to show up in thrift-store AC/DC shirts, play half-ass Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes about drinking Lone Star and smoking weed, and call that “country.” Well, good friends, THE BEAUMONTS didn’t think that was “all that damn country” and decided to do something about it. What resulted was a juggernaut of essence, the trooest of troo cvntry, something akin to the creation of the universe, but with Telecasters. Behold, good friends, and delight in the majesty of THE BEAUMONTS!

Friday 24 July 2015 - The Wheel Workers * Octahedron * Ex-Optimists (doors 8pm)

The Wheel Workers (Houston, TX)
https://www.thewheelworkers.com/

Since late 2010, The Wheel Workers’ crisp sound and intelligent lyrics have earned them growing recognition in Houston’s active indie rock scene. Recently, they were nominated in numerous categories in the prestigious 2014 Houston Press Music Awards, including Best Songwriter (Steven Higginbotham), Best Keyboardist (Allison McPhail) and Best Pop Act.

The Wheel Workers have played regularly around Texas, performing at SXSW in Austin, enjoying the honor of playing on the same stage as The Flaming Lips at Free Press Summerfest in Houston, and opening for national touring acts such as Miniature Tigers, Elf Power, The Coathangers and Thao & The Get Down Stay Down.

The band is currently promoting its second full-length album, Past to Present, recorded at SugarHill Studios with producer Dan Workman and released by ZenHill Records.

“They’ve managed to craft a dozen tracks that are thoughtful, warm, friendly, melodic, and addictive as all hell (it’s seriously impossible to not sing along to “Chemicals,” for one)….” – Space City Rock

“I’m enraptured by the deftness with which The Wheel Workers have brought together the sounds of Radiohead, ELO, Pink Floyd, The Flaming Lips, twothirtyeight, and The Rentals with such fantastic aplomb. Past to Present is packed to the gills with crazy-good pop music that also manages to be insightful, dense, and heartfelt art-rock.” – Dryvetyme Online

Octahedron (San Antonio, TX)
https://octahedronmusic.com/

Octahedron is an indie pop group from San Antonio, TX that formed in July 2013. The band is made up of lead vocalist and keyboardist Elena Lopez, bassist Ruben Lopez, vocalist and guitarist Austin Jimison, and drummer Daniel Puente. The band also incorporates other instruments, such as ukulele and synths.

Octahedron formed in July 2013. Elena Lopez and her brother Ruben Lopez had been members of Invision Love, another San Antonio band. Elena had a clear vision for the kind of music she wanted to create and made the decision to begin her own project. They met drummer Daniel Puente and Elena extended an invitation to him to join them. Not long after, Elena posted a notice on Facebook that she was looking for a guitarist for her newly formed band. Austin Jimison responded that he was interested in joining the lineup. After some conversation Octahedron’s current lineup came to fruition.

Octahedron has worked tirelessly writing and performing original music. They have played an average of one show a week and are always developing new material. In addition to their work as a band, they are also committed to using their platform to contribute to the community. The band has been involved in projects that have assisted the San Antonio Food Bank and a local homeless program. They will often note that they are “making music to make life better.”

While still a young band, they are already garnering attention for their unique style, lyrical depth and musical prowess. Elena, Ruben, Austin and Daniel never fail to impress wherever they play and they look forward to working hard to make great music for years to come.

The Ex-Optimists (College Station, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/theexoptimists

“I’m honestly kicking myself now for not listening to this sooner. College Station band The Ex-Optimists have been on repeat in my headphones for a while now, drowning me in a turbulent squall of Sonic Youth guitars, driving ’90s indie-drone-rock melodies, and hazy, softspoken vocals, and I’m enjoying the hell out of it.

On “Nitemare City,” the guitars are watery and sharp-edged in equal measure, drifting around you like psychically-controlled knives that periodically dart in to gouge out a chunk of your flesh. In the meantime, frontman Kelly Minnis serenely murmurs and croons like he’s already lost in the swirling murk; that is, until the whole damn thing explodes in a ball of fury partway through before coalescing back into its more stable previous state. The closest thing I can come up with is Houston’s own Muhammad Ali, except that this quartet sounds like they’re fueled less by beer and more by green, leafy substances.

Then there’s B-side “February,” which dives sideways into nearly Dinosaur Jr., quick-stepping along through an insanely-catchy melody while the overfuzzed guitars set fire to the scenery. Occasionally feels like I’m listening to a rougher-edged Silversun Pickups — there’s definitely a hazy, shoegaze quality to it, beneath the out-and-out noise. “- Space City Rock
