Whorehound (Houston, TX)
https://www.myspace.com/whorehound

Whorehound is Texas Roadhouse Metal. Diesel, one legged dogs, pickup trucks with nails in the bed and FM roads you don’t much want to change your tire .. sundown. The dirt on their boots is from a storm where it rained mud; they don’t have swagger – they have rust. Their set Sunday was the best we’d ever seen them put on. If you’re looking for something heavier that nails the metal fundamentals filtered through a punk aesthetic – be sure to check them out next time they play. - skyline.net

ESE (Houston, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/ESEtexas

Ese is a unique mash up of Punk, Rock n Roll, and just a touch of Hardcore and Metal. Ese started in the early 2000s, spending their first years finding and refining their signature sound to their local Houston music scene. Over the years they have toured all over the USA which led to them being noticed and signed by Zodiac Killer Records. Until 2014, all original members of ESE worked hard to get the band to where they are today. After the departure of Knotch, one of the driving forces behind Ese, the band made the tough decision to continue. With the addition of Edward and Chris, the renewed energy and the incredible sound and fury of the band has floored audiences around America which landed them a spot on the Sudden Death Records roster, where ESE happily joins the ranks of amazing artist such as The Damned, MDC, The Vibrators, Real McKenzies, and DOA.

Here’s what Joe Keithley of DOA fame and Sudden Death records have to say about ESE and their new Album “All In” - “Ese are a rough and tumble outfit from the streets. When they hit the stage you can tell they mean business. That’s exactly what Sudden Death’s Joe Shithead saw when ESE opened for D.O.A. a few years back. He exclaimed, “Wow, ESE is like Tex-Mex Motorhead, they blew the doors off of that joint.”About a year later Shithead saw Ese again in Texas, they stomped their proverbial stomping grounds in such a menacing way, Joe happily agreed to sign the band to Sudden Death. So this is the end result. It’s a wild and unbridled marriage of rock n’ roll and punk that has not been seen for some time. From the kicking opening track “Badass Fatass” to “Ghetto Ese Style,” these boys take power riffs and mash them nonstop into your cranium, you’ll be screaming for more. And that’s what you get as they blaze thru “Pissed Off,” “Texas Guns” and the saucy “Guacamole” (Texas Tornados). Ese is from the streets and they will kick your ass with All In, in what will surely become known as one of the rawest and best rock n’ roll albums of 2015.

Worm Suicide (Austin, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/wormsuicide/

Worm Suicide formed in South Texas 1996. Old punk rockers, performed on tons of comps including Samhain tribute records, Misfit compilations, GG Allin compilations. Lots of shows on the record books and good times with East and West Coast touring acts, from punk, to metal, to Oi, to hardcore, we played with them all…

The Devil club was you, your girlfriends, the ones who fed us booze, the people who let us crash on their floors, all the ones who passed out flyers, passed out in front of us, let us video you while you vomited, paid us some gas money, traded gigs with us, shared our CDs, let us take naked pictures of you for our CDs, paid to get into our concerts, pissed blood in the grass with us, kept us from dying in our own fluids, brought over beer bongs, picked scott up when he fell on his face and most importantly kept screaming and continued to support the Worm Boys through those years that it mattered.

The Cops (Houston, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/THe-Cops-1176247895781584/

“The best thing about The Cops is that they play their parts respectively from the first song to the last, and act like asshole cops would if they formed a band. With feelings of Hot Snakes and Pissed Jeans all over tongue in cheek tracks that are written from the cop’s point of view, their uniforms and brash attitude are as redeeming as their catchy as hell songs. Their best song is easily “Homicide,” while tracks like “Street Hooker” and “Life On The Beat” are hard to dislike. I can’t wait to see what they bring to the table next year, as their live shows are a lot like a rally, but non-violent and more energetic.” - Best New Houston Band, Free Press Houston

Dead Roses (Houston, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dead-Roses/232683603420051

“We’re not just a band…..we’re a fucking tragedy” – with these immortal words, they launched into their debut set on Valentine’s Day of 2004, and H-town’s infamous DEAD ROSES were born. Since then, they have played shows with notable acts such as the DEMOLITION DOLLRODS, GLASS CANDY, DEAD MOON, BOBBY CONN, LOST SOUNDS, LES GEORGES LENINGRAD, FATAL FLYING GUILLOTINES, MEAT PUPPETS, and DIRT BOMBS. Heart broken, sleep deprived, glam damage is this group’s forte. Their formidable line-up includes former members of the LEPERS, INTROVERTS, CULTURCIDE, PAIN TEENS, TRUTH DECAY, VULGARIANS, NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE, THE HAUNTING ALLURE OF ELKE PALLENBERG’S VOID, SWARM OF ANGELS, HIGH ALMOND CONTENT, NTX PISTOLS, DISCOMFORTRON, BALACLAVAS, FUTURE BLONDES, DIAMONDS AND PEARLS, AFTER PARTY, UNGARISCHE DEUTSCHE FREUNDSCHAFT, DOTS, MYSTERY FLAVOR, and BRIDE OF PINBOT to name a few. DEAD ROSES have recorded and re-recorded their epic first release nine times, but refuse to put it out until it absolutely meets their impossibly high standards of excellence. Other activities/interests include socializing with international superstars, needlepoint, speaking with fake foreign accents, experimenting with eyeliner, and getting kicked out of ALICE COOPER concerts.

Phil Pain, Houston’s Wild Dog Magazine

Promoter - Don Gomez, Paramount Talent

“Many thanks to The Businessmen for performing the Atlanta Talent Expo at Fox Theatre. These guys did a great job! I got my very first shout out, and the roses were a very nice touch!”

The Inanimate Objects - (Houston, TX )
https://www.theinanimateobjects.com/

The Inanimate Objects are a Houston, Texas based three-piece alternative music band, which has been cranking-out original compositions since the late 1970s, when the punk rock era was just beginning to surface. The band’s roots go back to 1978 in the Park Place region of southeast Houston, Texas, when original works were performed at parties with friends, using instruments such as a toy drum kit and a Silvertone guitar.
The band currently consists of the following, all of whom have been members since the band’s first public gig in 1980:

Ted Bare – lead guitar, rhythm guitar & vocals
Ron Obvious – drums
Ollie Stevans – bass guitar and vocals

During the early years, the band also included lead vocalist, Id Pleasure, who later resigned in 1987. Subsequently, Ollie and Ted have shared lead vocals about 50/50.

Friday 23 December 2016 - Project Grimm * Linus Pauling Quartet * Stonework

Project Grimm (Houston, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Project-Grimm/121509194528707

A decidedly less experimental group than its most direct predecessor, the Mike Gunn, Project Grimm was formed in 1995 by Gunn frontman and guitarist John Cramer to satisfy his urges to be a bit more straightforward in his approach to guitar rock. Interested in looking to build a band around this new direction, Cramer called local drummer Rick Costello (…of Houston band Bleachbath) who volunteered his services straight away. Drew Calhoun joined on bass, and former Schlong Weasel (University of Houston “branch”) member Jim Otterson rounded out the lineup as second guitarist. Their first show, on July 3, 1995 was followed by recording sessions that would result in their first album, Lying Down out on Linus Pauling Quartet’s Ramon Medina (also a former Schlong Weasel-er) Worship Guitars label in 1996. The pace of recording and releasing would slow down considerably for the band, which wouldn’t quite get around to releasing the follow-up until 2003. In the meantime, Bo Morris would take over on drums for the kicked out Rick Costello, and Cramer would work with former Mike Gunn colleague Scott Grimm on his Dunlavy project. July 2003 would see the release of Project Grimm’s second album, Huge Beings (released on Camera Obscura’s Australian sister label Camera Lucida), but it would also see the band split — on the very day of the album’s release. Leader John Cramer would later appear as a solo artist working under the name the Powers of Light & Darkness, and played sporadic shows around Houston. – Chris M. True via allmusic.com

LP4

The Linus Pauling Quartet (Houston, TX)
https://www.worshipguitars.org/LP4/

Pure guitar muscle and Texas Stoner Metal Psych insanity with universal themes like drugs, beer, sci-fi/fantasy, and Bongs of Power. If you like your riffs heavy, the solos unyielding, and the smell of the bong to billow out of your stereo, the LP4 is your band.

“a core point about the Linus Pauling Quartet isn’t merely that they’re a great psych band, but a great band period, able to embrace a lot of styles and moods and work them well. ” – Ned Raggett, Allmusic.com

“Anthemic, stupid and selflessly unrestrained, the LPQ eventually attain self immolation of sorts during the sprawling chaos.”– Phil Mc Mullen, Ptolemaic Terrascope (UK)

“Variety through dementia indicative of excessive drug use and boredom.”– Flipside

“Compulsory listening for anyone interested in modern American guitar rock, or just plain alternative music.”–Crohinga Well (Belgium)

” [the band] should consider doing a few less bonghits”–Michael Davis of Option Magazine

“A quartet of Texas weirdos who’re smart enough to play it real stupid, mining that fine line between drug-induced idiocy and conceptual genius for way more than you might’ve thought it was worth.”– Kevin Moist, Deep Water.

“I don’t know what kind of drugs they’ve put in the Texas water supply, but I hope they keep doing it, because now we have these mutant sons of Yeti.”–Factsheet 5

“…possibly the most enigmatic yet bombastic rock band to emerge out of Texas inthe last 10 years.”–Mats Gustafsson & Lee Jackson – The Broken Face(Sweden)

“… a 2,500-microdot dose of conceptual zig-zaggery so daunting that Roger Dean would get a hernia trying to sketch the album sleeve. Imagine Captain Beefheart’s magic Band “reworking” Pink Floyd’s Atom Heart Mother right on the cusp of the Rapture. ” –Fred Mills – Magnet(US)

“Not surprisingly for a product of the same hometown as the Red Krayola and Rusted Shut, Houston’s Linus Pauling Quartet is equal parts demented and lovable. A sevenpiece with several guests, the Quartet specializes in waves of psychedelic slog thicker than humidity coming off Buffalo Bayou in August. At the same time, C6H8O6 doesn’t abandon humor or melody in its overwhelming sonic onslaught…Like Slater says in Dazed and Confused, “You couldn’t handle that shit on strong acid, man.” On second thought, maybe that’s the only way you could.” – Christopher Gray, Austin Chronicle
