Saturday 26 October 2019 - The Halloweening VIII: The Returninging

***UPDATE: GWARRISSEY HAS CANCELLED***

From the ashes of Walter’s on Washington Downtown on Naylor, The Halloweening rises once again at Rudyard’s! Drape Eldritch robes over your decrepit ghoul bones, gnash with your fangs seared flesh of cow and totted root vegetable, and see your favorite musicians* perform all manner of ghastly tribute to fallen idols of long forgotten ages.

Costumes! Food! Drinks! Bands! Frights! Horrors that await include:

SPEEDING MOTORCYCLE: By popular demand, this full band tribute to Daniel Johnston returns to Houston stages for the first time since their sold out theatrical run last summer, with some new songs and 1000% more monster costumes! We were going to announce this whole thing sooner but waited too long and then Daniel Johnston died and we didn’t want to look too ghoOoOolish! We were also going to call it “Hi, How Gwar You?” but chickened out!”

PATSY CLINE INCH NAILS: By popular demand, for the first time in Halloweening history, a band is coming back for revenge! If you missed PCIN at the last Halloweening, they are still upset at you, but you can make it up to them! The music is exactly what you’re thinking, only better, only dumber, only better!

SOFT-REX: By popular demand, indie rock heartthrobs Softwear have made it their dark mission to defile the memory of Marc Bolan and T-Rex! Wipe the blood off of your magical space-elf platform boots, you’re going to want to look good for this!

GWARRISSEY: By popular demand, Gwarrissey has cancelled. Gwarrissey will be playing a make up show in February, which has also been cancelled.

THE BUZZCROCS: To paraphrase F. Scott Fitzgerald (or was it Coach Springer), “you can’t be punk and be comfortable.” Garbage! Hearts of Animals are slipping on some sensible shoes and combining the best of Manchester and Middle America. It’s the BuzzCrocs! No one asked for this!

More details forthcoming. Gwarrissey will NOT be performing. BOO!

Tickets at the door: $5 with costume, $10 without

Wednesday 23 October 2019 - Grün Wasser, Tearful Moon, Dans Votre Monde, GSS (18+)

Grün Wasser (Chicago, IL)
https://grunwasser.bandcamp.com

Arising at the forefront of contemporary underground pop, Chicago-based duo GRÜN WASSER shapes the course of minimal electronic music and blurs the boundaries of art, songwriting and performance. Vocalist Keely Dowd and producer Essej Pollock artfully bend and reconfigure popular trends in dance music into unconventionally catchy songs and a powerful live show. As longtime friends, Dowd and Pollock formed GRÜN WASSER in 2015 out of the rich cultural hub of Chicago. Both had backgrounds in punk and electronic music and together crafted a dynamic live act that fit within a variety of niche genres and scenes. Dowd candidly speak out against hyper-masculinity and challenge misogynistic cultural norms. The lyrics of her songs have become woven into the live performance, with Dowd often venturing into the crowd and confronting audience members with an intensely honest portrayal of feminine empowerment. Perfectly paired, Pollock’s thumping, experimental beats complement Dowd’s hypnotic vocals and gripping stage presence, making GRÜN WASSER a potent combination of pop and art.
