ARTIST BIOS

BUDDY WAKEFIELD :

Buddy Wakefield is a three-time world champion spoken word artist featured on the BBC, HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, ABC Radio National and has been signed to both Sage Francis’ Strange Famous Records as well as Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records. In 2004 he won the Individual World Poetry Slam Finals thanks to the support of anthropologist and producer Norman Lear then went on to share the stage with nearly every notable performance poet in the world in over 2000 venues internationally from The Great Lawn of Central Park, Zimbabwe’s Shoko Festival and Scotland’s Oran Mor to San Quentin State Penitentiary, House of Blues New Orleans and The Basement in Sydney, Australia.

EBONY STEWART:

Ebony Stewart is an international touring poet and performance artist. Her work speaks to the black experience, with emphasis on gender, sexuality, womanhood, and race, with the hopes to be relatable, remove shame, heal minds, encourage dialogue, and inspire folks in marginalized communities. As one of the most decorated poets in Texas, Ebony is a respected coach and mentor, one of the top touring poets in the country, and a Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion. The Sexual Health activist and former Sex Educator is also pursuing a license as a Sex Therapist. As a playwright, Ebony’s one woman shows, Hunger and OCEAN have received B. Iden Payne Awards and the David Mark Cohen New Play Award. She is the author of Love Letters to Balled Fists and Home.Girl.Hood. Her work has been featured in For Harriet, AfroPunk, Teen Vogue, and The Texas Observer. The only poet to perform at the Seattle 2018 Pride Festival before 200,000 people, was Ebony Stewart. She is the #storyoftheblackgirlwinning

The show will be upstairs at Rudyard’s Pub.
Capacity is 200 people with 150 seats.
- Seating and Ages -
This show is all ages. Seating is reserved for individuals who purchase a general seating ticket. All other areas of the venue are designated for standing room.

- Parking -
The venue is adjacent to two parking lots. Otherwise, we recommend parking for free on the streets in the neighborhood. Also, we suggest carpooling with friends or maybe splitting an Uber or Lyft.

Sunday 03 February 2019 - Grown-Up Storytime Reader’s Workshop (2-4pm)

Love Grown-Up Storytime? Every thought to yourself “Wow, I think it would be super fun to be up there and read a story?” Well your inner thoughts are totally right and you absolutely should come down and learn about what it takes to be a great GUST reader. The workshop will be run in two parts, first we will go over the guidelines and preparation of GUST reading and then you will actually get to practice onstage and receive feedback.

In order to give everyone enough time and space to read and receive feedback, spots are limited.
Rudyard’s will be open for business, and you are welcome to bring refreshments upstairs, but please be on-time and ready to practice right at 2:00pm.

Altercation Road Stories brings together an assortment of punk rock and metal lifers for a night of true, you-had-to-be-there-to-believe-it spoken word performances. With past artists participating including members of such legendary bands such as ALL, Dead Boys, The Krum Bums, Jim Rose Circus Sideshow, SOD, Off With Their Heads, Wax, Final Conflict, Rise Against and more, the Altercation Road Stories series has become a must-see national event. Curated and hosted by Altercation Punk Comedy Tour headliner JT Habersaat (Stand Up! Records / Doug Stanhope Podcast), the January 2019 edition also includes appearances from Riverboat Gamblers’ vocalist Mike Wiebe, lead guitarist for The Sword Kyle Shutt, and an opening set of outlaw country murder ballads from Texas legend Dirty Charley. Secret guests are expected on all shows, with lineups varying each night, plus local comedians opening the festivities on every date. Don’t miss this VERY special show!
